Meet the band!
Founded in Oct 2012, Metropolitan Avenue plays a swingin' jazzy style, that is straight out of Memphis. Composed of: Mikael Santan on vocals, harmonica - ChuckSullivan on bass - Chris Chatfield on guitar and Jason M. Vawter on drums.
Meet Chris!
Chris was born in Kansas City and was introduced to blues music during piano lessons as a child. He started playing guitar in earnest during college, rather than studying. His main influences include Ronnie Earl, Peter Green, and BB King.
Meet Chuck!
Chuck Sullivan has played bass for many years. He became hooked on music as a young boy listening to the likes of Santana and War on a reel to reel with his father. His bass teacher started him off with playing the blues in the late 90's and began playing with Metopolitan Avenue a few years ago. He is heavily influenced by James Jamerson, Chuck Rainey, Victor Wooten and Jaco Pastorius.
Meet Mikael!
Mikael Santana, born and raised in Florida, discovered the Blues Harmonica when he first viewed the movie "Crossroads". The humble instrument has taken him to countless gigs on historic Beale St, in Memphis, the Frank Frost Stage at the King Biscuit Blues Festival, and, ultimately, to open for B.B. King in Indianola, MS. Santana's musical influences include Little Walter Jacobs, William Clarke, and Big Joe Maher.
Meet the Jason!
Jason Martin Vawter is a native Memphian has a deep seeded passion for the percussive arts. He has spent the last decade and a half honing his craft in as many bands as possible, learning to book events, arranging music, teaching drums, and has appeared on at least nine unique records. Jason grew up listening to the radio and his parents' 45's and 8 tracks absorbing as much classic rock, blues, and jazz as he could. His main influences are Ron Bushy, John Bonham, Mitch Mitchell, and Nick Mason.
